Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Marquise Goodwin Wins Silver Medal in Long Jump at 2015 Pan Am Games
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was a track phenomenon in high school, winning multiple Texas state championships in sprinting and jumping events. He played football at the University of Texas, and was also on the track team. He won two NCAA men’s outdoor titles in the long jump, and competed in the event in the 2012 London Olympics, finishing 10th.
Goodwin had not competed in the long jump since the London Games, but returned to track and field in this year’s Pan Am Games, held in Toronto. It was a pretty good comeback, too. Goodwin won the silver medal in the long jump, with a distance of 27 feet 1 ¾ inches. The gold medalist was fellow American Jeffery Henderson at 28 feet ¼ inch.
Next year’s Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will be held in August during NFL training camp. If Goodwin qualifies for the U.S. Olympic team, this could pose a problem. However, Goodwin, who is entering his third NFL season, has not seen much action. He had just one catch for 42 yards in 10 games in 2014, and 17 catches for 283 yards and three touchdowns in 2013. With his great speed, he’s also been used on a handful of kickoff returns. Still, there is no guarantee he’ll make the Bills or any other NFL roster based on his past performance.
