There was a matchup of aces on the pitching mound in Seattle on June 17th as San Francisco Giants lefthander Madison Bumgarner faced Seattle Mariners righthander Felix Rodriguez. King Felix was coming off the worst outing of his career, where he allowed eight earned runs in one third of an inning against the Houston Astros.

Well, that was just a fluke. Hernandez pitched eight innings and scattered four singles as the Mariners beat the Giants 2-0. Bumgarner also pitched well, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out nine. Hernandez became the American League’s first 10 game winner, improving to 10-3, while Bumgarner is now 7-4.

Well pitched games with little offense are often the norm when two top of the line pitchers face each other. On the opposite side of things was the Chicago Cubs at Cleveland Indians game. The Cubs pounded out 18 hits en route to a 17-0 clobbering of Tribe. Four Cubs hit home runs, including this grand slam from rookie Kris Bryant. He hit it off outfielder David Murphy, who was brought in to mop up and save the pitching staff in the lost cause:

    I can’t explain why, but Felix seems to always come through on the bigger games.

      It’s crazy. It’s like he doesn’t think the 133rd game of the Mariners season is important.
