Final Jeopardy: Bodies of Water (4-21-15)
The Final Jeopardy question (4/21/2015), in the category “Bodies of Water” was:
The Finnish call it Itameri and the Germans call it Ostsee.
New champ Todd Lovell defeated a 6x champ yesterday and won $26,401. Today he is up against these two players: Rachel Pepe, from St. Louis, MO; and Michael Brady, from Norwood, MA.
Round 1: Todd found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “There’s an Animal in my Dictionary” under the $800 clue. He was in the lead with $1,400, $800 more than Rachel in second place. He made it a true Daily Double but he blanked out so he was WRONG.

Todd finished in the lead with $2,200. Michael and Penny were tied at $1,000 but Michael got to go first in Double Jeopardy!
Round 2: Michael found the first Daily Double in “Maps & Globes” under the $1,600 clue. He was in the lead with $3,400, $2,000 more than Rachel in second place. He bet $1,200 and said “Quartet”. That was WRONG.

Michael found the last Daily Double in “Expect the Spanish” under the $1,600 clue. In the lead with $10,200, he now had $4,000 more than Rachel in second place. Planning ahead, he bet $2,001 and he was RIGHT.
Pre-dictatorship, he distinguished himself serving in Spanish Morocco & was made a General at age 33. show
Michael finished in the lead with $12,201. Rachel was next with $7,800 and Todd was in third place with $5,800.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS THE BALTIC SEA?
“The Baltic Sea was known in ancient sources as Mare Suebicum or Mare Germanicum. It is also known by the equivalents of “East Sea”, “West Sea”, or “Baltic Sea” in different languages” … (wikipedia)
From 1989: BODIES OF WATER ($800) This sea gets its name from a collective term for the people of Latvia & Lithuania
Todd got it right. He bet $3,000 and finished with $8,800.
Rachel thought it was the North Sea. She bet and lost everything she had.
Michael also got it right. His $3,400 bet brought him up to today’s winning total — $15,601 — and made him the new Jeopardy! champ.
Michael Brady is a user experience designer. During the chat, he and Alex talked about exactly what that is but Alex still seemed confused. “Interesting stuff,” he said, “but it’s not familiar to me in any way, shape or form.”
2 years ago:: ALL of the players got this FJ in “The U.S. Government”
Donna Shalala, Alberto Gonzales & Tom Vilsack have each served as the “designated survivor” skipping this event. show

Giant-killers are also mood-killers. I was settling down to a long run with Alex Jacob when Todd butted in with his true daily double and Instagram solve yesterday. And couldn’t follow up today.
It’s not Todd’s fault that your giant blew final jeopardy.
Maybe that will make his re-appearance that much better. At least you know you will see him again.
You’ll notice that Michael would have won by $1 both ways, if he missed and if he got right and Rachel also gets it right and doubles up, so that makes Todd’s $3,000 wager, a bad wager.
I just checked on TFW (The Final Wager). You’re right. He got the black. Todd Lovell… :)(
I go to the Final Wager a lot, but all I ever do on that website is find out whether Keith Williams has uploaded a certain video or not, plus the stuff that Keith usually does such as wagering calculations.
Bryce’s wife Rachel called the SHowcase the SHowcase Showdown in error when she mentioned her husband Bryce was on TPIR about 10-12 years ago. An update of the 10/16/2003 episode has a Bryce winning the SCSD and $1K and the SHowcase, but winning three small prizes in Switcheroo but not the car. He won Candles, a trip to London and a ski boat for a total of $24,958.
Bad FJ bet by Todd. Even if Michael had been wrong, he would have won.
by a buck, but you are right. math 101….
Well, I didn’t much care who won after none of them knew that clue about Brick :):)
It was the Cotton Bowl, Sister Woman
Only two celebrity contestants were revealed today: Captain Mark Kelly and Bellamy Young.
Kelly deserves it, though i am sure that hardly anyone remembers him. young?…..not so much either way.
anybody who is brave enough to sit on God knows how much rocket fuel and goes into space – or what we in our limited ways call space- is a hero imo. especially given the unfortunate shuttle incidents.
somehow i have a feeling he will do very well.astronauts usually have a broad basic knowledge of a lot of things, and he should not have any problem to locate any place on earth. he had an excellent view…:):)
Well, they picked up the pace at the end of today’s episode after they weren’t doing so well.
@jacob
well, we were both right. rachel was at least in the right part of the world (which the clue already gave away anyway…)
but the #s have dropped considerably since alex departed….
and we are back in the one day champ rotation. we’ll see tomorrow if michael can repeat. otherwise – have not seen the show yet- it seemed to be rather, idk, “flat”?
@John, flat is putting it mildly. Imo it was a ho-hum game.
