Blackhawks win Fourth Straight, Eliminate Blues in Stanley Cup Playoffs

It was looking a little grim for the Chicago Blackhawks back on April 19th.  The defending Stanley Cup champs were down 2-0 to the St, Louis Blues in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after losing two games in overtime in St. Louis.  But then the Blackhawks won Game 3 in Chicago 2-0 behind a great goal tending performance by Corey Crawford.  Chicago followed that up with two overtime victories, and suddenly the Blues trailed 3 games to 2 and faced elimination, with Game 6 in Chicago on September 27th.

After two periods, the score was tied 1-1, and it looked like a fifth overtime game was real possibility.  But in the third period, Chicago broke it open with four goals to win 5-1 and eliminate St. Louis.  The Blues were eliminated the same way last season, losing four straight to the Los Angeles Kings after taking the first two game of that series.

The Blackhawks tailed off a bit late in the regular season, in part due to injuries to Jonathan Toews and Patrick Cane, but they are back up to speed now.  With Crawford in top form, Chicago is a force to be reckoned with.  The ‘Hawks will face the winner of the Colorado Avalanche—Minnesota Wild series next.
