Lindsey Vonn Will Delay Return to Competition by a Month

Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Vonn had hoped to be ready for the start of the World Cup ski season, but she has decided to skip the October 26th opener in Austria in favor of more training at home in the U.S.  Last February, she tore both her ACL and MCL in a crash.  Her recovery and rehab had been going so well she talked of returning to competition at the beginning of the season.  She’s now targeting November 29th for that return.

We think this is a wise move.  Yes, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson came back nine months later from the same injury and was spectacular, but that was a rarity.  We’re sure Vonn wanted to be out there at the start of the season, but trying to compete at that level too soon could lead to frustration at best and another injury at worst.  We’re also sure she wants to be at her best for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.  Those Games start on February 7th, just a shade more than three months from now.  The Olympics are the biggest showcase for Alpine skiing, and Vonn is one of the stars. So now Vonn will now train for another month in Colorado and hang out with Tiger Woods until Thanksgiving weekend.
