Lindsey Vonn will Return to the Slopes
Olympic gold medal skier Lindsey Vonn got some good news in her rehab and recovery from the knee injury she suffered at the World Championships in Austria back in February 2013. Vonn is ahead of schedule and has been cleared to do some limited skiing, which she will do over the Labor Day weekend in Chile. She’s been working out four hours a day to get the knee back in skiing condition and says it’s 98% now. Vonn wasn’t expected to be able to hit the slopes until November, and while she’ll need to wear a brace and not try anything to intense, she’ll at least be back out there. Though rare, It’s not unheard of for World Class athletes to recover from this type of injury this fast; Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson suffered a similar injury in December 2011 and had the best season of his career (to date) in 2012.
The 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia are in February, and it’s looking more like she’ll be able to compete. That’s great news for the U.S. Ski Team, too; Vonn won the Gold Medal in the Downhill at the 2012 games in Vancouver and took Bronze in the Super G. Vonn, who spent the last few months as Tiger Wood’s girlfriend and learning how to fly fish when she wasn’t working on the knee, hopes to be back to actual competition on the World Cup circuit in November.
