Knicks’ Jason Kidd Retires
New York Knicks point guard Jason Kidd announced his retirement June 3rd after 19 seasons in the NBA. Kidd, 40, still had two years remaining on his contract with the Knicks, but decided over the weekend that “it is the right time” to hang it up.
Kidd played just one year with the Knicks. He was the second overall pick in the 1994 NBA draft, chosen by the Dallas Mavericks. He played in Dallas for three years and returned there in 2007 after playing five years with the Phoenix Suns and seven years with the New Jersey Nets. He won an NBA Title in 2011 with the Mavericks.
Kidd has a lengthy list of accomplishments as a player. He’s second all time in both assists and steals, was a co-winner of the NBA Rookie of the Year for the ’94-’95 season with Grant Hill (who announced his own retirement a couple of days earlier), was a 10 time All-Star, and won Olympic gold medals in basketball in the 2000 and 2008 games in addition to that NBA crown. There wasn’t much left for him to accomplish, except to go into the Hall of Fame which he is sure to do.
