Randy Moss Says He’s the Greatest Wide Receiver Ever
At this year’s Super Bowl Media Day, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Randy Moss announced that he is football’s best receiver ever. “Now that I’m older, I do think I’m the greatest receiver to ever do it” he told the media.
Moss has the statistics to lay claim as one of the top receivers in history, but it’s a stretch to say he’s the best ever. Jerry Rice, the player who many people except Moss consider the best receiver ever said he was “surprised” Moss would claim to be the best ever. Rice stayed classy, saying he’d never claim to be the best, but he would “let my body of work speak for itself, and I think I was able to be very productive on the football field”.
Indeed, let’s compare the players’ stats. In 218 games, Moss has 982 catches for 15,292 yards and 156 touchdowns receptions. Rice had 1549 receptions for 22,895 yards and 197 touchdowns. Rice is the all time leader in all three categories. Moss is ninth in receptions, second in receiving touchdowns, and third in receiving yards. Moss intends to play in 2013 and if he does, he’ll add to his numbers. But he still has a ways to go to catch Rice, who is remains number one.
