Jamie Lee Curtis: I’m Famous Enough
Jamie Lee Curtis appeared on The Tonight Show tonight, a redundant statement, but true. After talking about crowbars and children’s books, the topic switched to Halloween fans. Jamie Lee related how Halloween fans sometimes show up at her children’s book signing and will whip out memorabilia that she is really not supposed to sign. She took a photo with her own cell phone of one fan who had a tattoo of her (as Laurie in “Halloween”) on his bicep.
The actress also mentioned that she will be appearing at HorrorHound in Indianapolis on November 18th and 19th (and they’ve got a big ad about it on their website) at her first and only convention appearance, at which time she will sign “anything people put in front of me.” She is doing it to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and she is bringing along the original clapboard from Halloween (1978). “It’s gonna be a fun time,” she told Jay Leno, “why don’t you come?”
Jamie Lee then talked about being a “tosser” and not keeping memorabilia, while Jay Leno, she said, keeps everything. Leno said that his mom threw out his comic book collection when he was a kid and some of them are now worth like $1,200. (We know a lot of people feel that, Jay. We do, too).
Jamie Lee said, “There’s a point where you walk into somebody’s house and all you see are posters, you know, of movies that they did or Oscars or awards that they have on the shelf. It’s like — it’s bad enough — I’m famous enough. The last thing I need to do is like remind you that I’m really famous. And it’s gross! It’s gross! It’s really makes — you go into people’s offices and all they do is have posters up of the movies they do. It’s gross!”
Well, wow. That was a pretty bold speech and we would imagine that there may be a few people who display their memorabilia that are thinking, well, thanks for that, Jamie Lee, I didn’t even know you thought my office (or home) was gross, but now I do!
There are some people, FYI, who are fascinated by memorabilia, otherwise there would be no reason for you to sign any, would there? And can you really imagine anyone tossing out an Oscar? LOL!
For the record, Jamie Lee has never won an Oscar or even been nominated for one. Her mom, Janet Leigh, was nominated for an Oscar for a Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Psycho” (1960) and her dad, Tony Curtis, was nominated for Best Actor for his performance in “The Defiant Ones” (1958).
