Tiger Woods Wins His First Golf Tournament Since 2009
Tiger Woods won the Arnold Palmer Invitational on March 25th for his 72nd PGA tour victory and 84th overall win. A couple of years ago, this win by Woods would have been routine in the world of professional golf, but this is Tiger’s first tournament victory since the fall of 2009 (not counting the win he got in December in an 18 man field at the Chevron World Challenge. ) Since that time, he’s had revelations of numerous affairs, a high profile (and expensive) divorce, a disgruntled former caddy whining in public about his treatment, and an endless string of injuries. When he was able to play, his game was a shadow of what it once was, especially considering how high he had set the bar in his past performances.
Woods is now a serious challenger in the Master’s in April, an event he has won four times, most recently in 2005. At age 36, Tiger is young enough to have several productive years left on the PGA tour, and despite all the negative publicity he’s had in recent years (much of it brought on by his own actions) he still has the ability to spark interest in golf.
