Penelope Cruz Set Hair on Fire on Her Birthday

Actress Penelope Cruz appeared on the Tonight Show on May 3rd and talked with host Jay Leno about the birthday they share: April 28th. Penelope turned 37 and Jay turned 61. They were born under the sign of Taurus. “Are you stubborn,” Jay asked the new mother, after congratulating her on the birth of her baby, Leonardo, in January.

“Yeah, I’ve been told all my life that I’m very stubborn,” Penelope replied, and asked Jay if he was also stubborn. “No, not at all,” Jay said, which evoked laughter from the audience although we can’t imagine why.

Penelope said that she celebrated her birthday at a dinner with friends and family but she always gets nervous celebrating her birthday.

“I get nervous when people sing ‘Happy Birthday’. I get nervous when I have to open the presents in front of them,” Penelope said and added that she gets even more nervous at the Oscars or any event like that because she doesn’t know what to say — if she likes it or not. She has problems expressing herself.

“The other day,” she continued, “when I had to blow the candles, I got so nervous, my hair caught on fire!”

“That’s why they only have birthdays once a year,” Jay quipped.
