Nathan MacKinnon Scores Two Goals in Colorado’s 5-0 Win Over Red Wings
The NHL will be taking a break in less than a week for the Olympics in Italy as the league’s players will once again skate for their countries’ teams. There are still some games going on, and one on January 31st featured the top team in the Western Conference against the one of the better ones in the East with the Colorado Avalanche at the Detroit Red Wings.
This one was all Avalanche. Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon scored a pair of goals to become the first 40 goal scorer in the league this season, and had his 699th career assist as the Avalanche shutout the Red Wings 5-0.
Colorado is now 36-8-9 (81 points) on the season, which is the best record in the NHL. Detroit (32-18-6, 70 points) trails Atlantic Division leading Tampa Bay by two points. The Avalanche and Red Wings will complete their two game regular season series on February 2nd in Denver.
