Ducks Tie Score With One Second Left in Regulation; Win in Shootout

Proving once again that “it ain’t over til it’s over” the Pittsburgh Penguins were one second away from winning when Anaheim’s Beckett Sennecke scored a short handed goal tie to the score at 3-3 and force overtime in the Penguins—Ducks game at Pittsburgh on December 9th. No one scored in the overtime period, and Leo Carlsson scored for Anaheim in the shootout to give the Ducks a 4-3 victory.

Sennecke, a 19 year old rookie who was Anaheim’s 1st round draft pick (3rd overall) in the 2024 draft, now has 10 goals and 16 assists on the season. His 16th assist came in this game as well as that 10th goal. The Ducks have been a surprise this season, and lead the Pacific Division with a record of 19-10-1 (39 points). Anaheim was 35-37-10 last year and failed to make the playoffs. The Ducks have not been to the post season since 2017-18, when they were swept by San Jose in the 1st round after making it to the conference finals the year before.
