Texas A&M Overcomes 27 Point Halftime Deficit to Beat South Carolina 31-30
It looked like undefeated and third ranked Texas A&M was about to see all that end in their game against visiting South Carolina on November 15th. If it did, it would be a massive upset as SC was just 3-6 on the season, but A&M was down 30-3 at halftime. And South Carolina beat then #10 A&M 44-20 last year to end a seven game winning streak.
But as often is the case, this game was a tale of two halves. A&M had a huge second half from QB Marcel Reed, who threw three touchdown passes in the third quarter, and engineered a 10 play, 98 yard drive in the fourth quarter ending in an E.J. Smith four yard run for a touchdown. Kicker Randy Bond hit on all four extra points, and the defense held South Carolina scoreless in the second half. The result was a 31-10 Texas A&M victory in the biggest comeback in school history.
Reed threw two interceptions in the first half, but otherwise passed for a career high 439 yards on 22 completions, with three of those for touchdowns. Texas A&M improved to 10-0 on the season, which includes a 7-0 record in the SEC; and they maintained their #3 ranking in the AP College Football Poll. After an easy one against FCS Samford on November 22nd, they ll close out the regular season at #17 Texas on November 28th.
