Blue Jays Take 3 of 4 From Tigers in Matchup of Division Leaders
Gleyber Torres drove in four runs to lead the Detroit tigers to a 10-4 victory over the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on July 27th, preventing the Jays from sweeping the weekend’s four game series. Toronto had dominated the first three games, winning by scores of 11-4, 6-2, and 6-1.
Toronto (63-43) is in 1st place in the American League East, 5 ½ games ahead of second place New York and 6 ½ ahead of Boston. The Jays have won eight of their last 10. Detroit has been in a slump the last few weeks; the Tigers are 2-12 since July 9th. But the other American League Central clubs have been unable to make much headway and the Tigers (61-46) still lead the division by eight games over Cleveland and 8 ½ over Kansas City. That’s currently the largest lead in the majors.
Toronto is at Baltimore for a four game series starting July 28th, while the Tigers host a three game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
