Hot Brewers Sweep Season Series from Slumping Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, trailing the Milwaukee Brewers by one run on July 20th, but Mookie Betts lined out to center field and Milwaukee escaped with a 6-5 victory.
It was the 10th straight win for the Brewers, who swept the season series with the Dodgers 6-0. Milwaukee is 34-12 since May 25th, and moved into a 1st place tie with the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. Both teams were 59-40 at completion of play on the 20th. The Cubs and Brewers will have a three game series in Milwaukee July 28-30 and a five game set (including a make up for a rainout) August 18-21.
The Dodgers are headed in the opposite direction, having lost 10 of 12, but they still lead the NL West with a record of 58-42, 3 ½ games ahead of 2nd place San Diego. The Dodgers and Padres will play each other six more times this season; all those games are in August.
