Final Jeopardy: Europe (6-27-25)

The Final Jeopardy question (6/27/2025) in the category “Europe” was:

The EU has 5 metropolitan regions of more than 5 million people; this city is the only one on the Mediterranean

New champ Rocco Graziano, a substitute teacher from Staten Island, NY, won $17,200. In Game 2, he competes against: Klay Frappier, an accountant orig. from McHenry, ND; and Michelle Arguelles, a product marketing manager from Oakland, CA.

Round 1 Categories: Film Franchises – Geography Quiz – Seuss Characters a La Seuss – Palindromic Names – Soup! – Jeopardy! In 3-“D”

Michelle found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Palindromic Names” under the $800 clue on the 13th pick of the round. She was in last place with $600, $1,000 less than Klay’s lead. Michelle bet $1,000 and she was RIGHT.

Born in 1888, little Irene Von Bismarck-Schonhausen called her famous grandfather “Opa” this first name show

Michelle finished in the lead with $6,400. Klay was second with $3,000 and Rocco was last with $2,200. All clues were shown.

Round 2 Categories: World History – Now It’s A Museum – You’ve Got No Backbone – Get A Room – Toxic Culture – Words From Asian Languages

Klay found the first Daily Double in “Get a Room” under the $2,000 clue with 7 clues left after it. He was in the lead with $13,000, $3,400 more than Michelle in second place. Klay bet $1,000 and drew a blank so he was WRONG.

Of the rooms where Professor Plum sometimes committed board game murders, it’s the one sometimes known as a greenhouse show

Just 2 clues later, Rocco got the last Daily Double in “Now It’s a Museum” under the $1,600 clue. He was in last place with $4,600, $7,400 less than Klay’s lead. Rocco bet $3,000 and he was RIGHT.

As its name suggests it was once an administrative office for the Medicis; now it houses Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus” show

Klay finished in the lead with $12,000. Michelle was second with $10,000 and Rocco was last with $8,000. All clues were shown.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS BARCELONA?

Per Eurostat, an official EU website, the 5 metropolitan areas in the EU that more than 5 million people call home are: Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin and the Ruhr region. Whatever other statistics there may be, his is what I found on the EU’s official site. Barcelona is the only one on the Mediterranean Sea.

For us map lovers, here’s a (Spanish) map of all the major cities on the Mediterranean.

Rocco got it right. He bet $6,000 and finished with $14,000.

Michelle went with Athens. That cost her $8,000 and left her with $2,000.

Klay got it right, too. He bet $8,001 and won the game with $20,001. Klay Frappier is the new Jeopardy! champ.

Final Jeopardy (6/27/2025) Rocco Graziano, Klay Frappier, Michelle Arguelles

A triple stumper from each round:

TOXIC CULTURE ($1600) This actor, Imhotep in 1932’s “The Mummy”, played the bad dude Jonathan Brewster in the play “Arsenic & Old Lace”

($2000) Blues musician Huddie Ledbetter is better known by this stage name

2/3 on DD; couldn’t think of the third, which I learned from Jeopardy! anyhow!

Got FJ. I love that city (despite never having been there) because it was reputedly named after the Barca family, which included the great tactical general, Hannibal! And, to him is ascribed one of my most favorite sayings: “We will find a way, or we will make one.”

    Ken’s Roadkill…I dig it!!

Wow, Jason, that’s a great quote. 👍 I’m sending it to my son. He always appreciates a great quote.

I was absolutely awful tonight. Got the 3rd DD and a few stumpers. Said Athens for Final even though I knew that was wrong. I’ve been to Barcelona, but would not have thought of it being in a 5M area.

That was a good game, and I thought everyone was competent. I have to wonder if Rocco’s phrasing gaffe may have cost him an ultimate win. Had he spoken correctly, he’d have had $X more and Klay, who swooped in, $Y less. But I’m guessing the amounts would not have been enough to put Rocco in the lead entering Final.

Got the PA museum city; the wasp ship; woman’s bedroom. The Buddhist temple stumper value is shown as $000.

    • VJ says:

Yeah, I meant to fix that, Howard. It’s $800. I’ll fix it tomorrow. (I’m not signed in to the site on my phone)

Ugh! I performed a tad below average in the game, and didn’t have a clue regarding FJ. Anyways, that was quite a competitive game, and Michelle was going strong. Unfortunately, Michelle just couldn’t come up with the correct response in FJ, and Klay emerged as the new Jeopardy champion.

    • Howard says:

She’d have lost, as it played out, even with an all-in wager and a correct response.

  4. Kevin Cheng says:

Just like last week, we had a new champ each day and this week history repeats itself as we saw 5 different champs. Klay is our 11th consecutive new champ. Will Klay break the 1 day curse or will we get new champs again? We’ll have to wait and see on Monday and we are down to the final four weeks of Season 41.

    • VJ says:

Well, the one day champs aren’t really a bad thing if you look at it this way: 11 people didn’t show up for nothing like many have when you’ve got one player on a long run.

      • Howard says:

I never confirmed this, but I read years ago there was an online group known as Ken Jennings’ Roadkill. There was a young guy on a few shows before me who I was sure would be a 5-day champ (the limit then) and annihilate me, but he lost in his 3rd game and wasn’t at the studio when I arrived the next day.
