LeBron James Reaches 50,000 Point Milestone
LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to score a regular season and playoff combined total of 50,000 points with a 34 point performance versus the New Orleans Pelicans on March 4th in Los Angeles. James came into the game just one point shy of 50,000, and sank a 1st quarter three pointer to reach the milestone. The Lakers won the game 136-115.
James finished with 34 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, proving once again he can play at a high level even at age 40. He’s averaging 24.9 points per game in his 56 games, with 8.5 assists and 8.0 rebounds per game. The Lakers have been hot lately; the win over New Orleans was their 17th in their last 20 games. Los Angeles (39-21) has moved into second place in the overall Western Conference standings, trailing Oklahoma City (50-11) by 10.5 games. The Lakers lead Denver by half a game and Memphis by a game and a half.
Los Angeles hosts the New York Knicks on March 6th in its next game. The Lakers have two games left with Oklahoma City, a back to back set in April, although they are unlikely to catch the Thunder. They have one game left with Memphis and two with Denver.
