Yankees Win American League Pennant

New York’s Juan Soto hit a three run home run in the top of the tenth inning that ended up as the winning runs in a 5-2 victory in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series between the Yankees and Cleveland Guardians in Cleveland on October 19th. New York won the ALCS in five games over Cleveland, winning the American League Pennant for the 40th time in franchise history. It will be the first appearance in the World Series for the Bronx Bombers since 2009.

Soto is having an excellent post season. In nine games, he’s hit three homers and driven in eight runs while hitting .333 with a 1.106 OPS. During the regular season, Soto, who will be a free agent, hit 41 homers with 109 RBIs. Expect his next contract to be of stratospheric proportions. Giancarlo Stanton, who hit a two run homer in Game 5, was named the MVP of the series. Stanton is hitting .294 with five homers and 11 RBIs and a 1.179 OPS in nine post season games.

The Yankees will play either the Los Angeles Dodgers or New York Mets in the World Series beginning October 25th. The Yankees will be trying to win their 28th World Series Championship; the last one was in their most recent appearance in 2009, when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in six games.
