Defending champion Evans Chebet of Kenya won his second straight Boston Marathon on April 17th, finishing with a time of 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 54 seconds on a rainy, windy course. It’s the first time in 15 years that we’ve had a men’s champion repeat as winner. Gabriel Geay of Tanzania was second at 2:06:04 and Benson Kipruto of Kenya was third in a very close second/third finish with a time of 2:06:06. Scott Fauble was the best U.S. finisher; he was seventh with a time of 2:09:44.
On the women’s side, Hellen Obiri completed a Kenyon sweep of the winners, finishing in 2:21:38. Obiri was competing in just her second marathon. She won silver medals in the 5000 meters in the Olympics in both 2016 and 2020. Amane Beriso of Ethiopia was second with a time of 2:21:50 and Lonah Salpeter of Israel was third at 2:21:57. The best U.S. finisher was Emma Bates, who was fifth with a time of 2:22:10.
