Boston Bruins Establish New NHL Record for Wins With Victory over Flyers

David Pastrnak had a hat trick and Tyler Bertuzzi had three assists as the Boston Bruins beat the Flyers 5-3 in Philadelphia on April 9th. With the victory, the Bruins established a new record for wins in a season, improving to 63-12-5. Boston had already secured the President’s Trophy for best regular season record; with 131 points, the closest competitor is Carolina, trailing far behind with 109 points. The road to the Stanley Cup championship will go through Boston, which has home ice advantage throughout the playoffs.

With his three goal performance, Pastrnak reached 60 goals for the season, trailing only Edmonton’s Connor McDavid, who has 64 as of April 9th. This is the first time two NHL players have scored 60 in a season in 27 years. Although Boston has the record for victories, the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens hold the record for points with 131, still one ahead of the Bruins. Boston has two regular season games left, one at home against Washington April 11th and one at Montreal on April 13th. Neither opponent will be in the playoffs, and it’s entirely possible that the Bruins could break the Canadiens’ points record in Montreal.
