WHAT IS THE BISMARCK?
The Bismarck was a German battleship named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898). In May 1941, the ship was sent on a mission (Operation Rheinübung) to raid North American ships sending supplies to Great Britain. After the Bismarck sunk the HMS Hood on 5/24/1941, the Brits used all of their forces to sink the battleship on 5/27/1941. The wreckage of the Bismarck was located on 6/8/1989 in “surprisingly good condition” in an expedition led by Robert D. Ballard.
The war film “Sink the Bismarck!” came out in 1960, based upon C.S. Forester’s 1959 book “The Last Nine Days of the Bismarck”. The film inspired Johnny Horton’s 1960 same-named No. 3 hit song. As for the Mighty Hood, her wreckage was located in 2001 and one of her bells was salvaged in 2015. It was unveiled at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth on 5/24/2016, a memorial to the 1415 crew members who went down with the ship 75 years earlier.
Marsha thought it was the Andrea Doria, which sank in 1956. She didn’t bet anything and remained at $1,600.
Mike also went with the Andrea Doria. That cost him $18,200 and left him with $8,600.
Cris got it right. He bet $16,201 and won the game with $53,601. Congrats on another $50K+ payday, Cris, and an 8-day total of $275,502.

1 year ago, today, Matt Amodio lost for the 1st time, and his giant killer, Jonathan Fisher, won for the 1st time.
Still another slam dunk FJ this week, and that makes two in a row this week. Heck, both my mother and I picked Bismarck pretty much instantaneously as one just couldn’t go wrong with all of those clues.
Love this show. BUT Wish they would go back to 5 day winners…. The champ gets accustomed to answering, and the others are 1st timers and nervous,,,,, no competition at this rate.
Mike played an amazing game and made Cris work for that win. Mike is definitely set for the next second chance tournament.
What an exciting game! Cris and Mike had such an impressive big scores going into FJ!. Mike played such an amazing game and there is a good chance we’ll be seeing him in the Second Chance Tournament next year.
