Cardinals Sweep Three Game Series From Yankees
The St. Louis Cardinals swept a three game interleague series from the vising New York Yankees August 5th-7th, increasing their current winning streak to seven games and taking a two game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central race.
In the first game, St. Louis scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come from behind for a 4-2 victory. Game 2 was about pitching, namely, four Cardinals pitchers allowed just two total hits and no runs. New York’s pitching was almost as good, allowing just one run in the bottom of the 1st inning, but that was all St. Louis needed, winning 1-0. The series finale featured plenty of offense. Nolan Arenado and Paul DeJong each drove in four runs for St. Louis as the Cardinals won Game 3 12-9. Aaron Judge had four RBIs for New York.
Although the Yankees were 70-39 at the conclusion of the series, they are just 29-24 on the road. While they are 41-15 at home, they did lose three of their last four at Yankee Stadium before going to St. Louis. Not a big concern at this point as they still have a 9 ½ game lead over second place Toronto.
