#1 Kansas Loses to #18 Villanova
It seems that no college basketball team can maintain a #1 ranking this season. Michigan State, Kentucky, Duke, and Louisville all had short stays at the top of the polls. Now Kansas has joined that group.
The Jayhawks lost to Duke to open the season, but had cranked out nine straight victories after that. Villanova, who is no slouch either at #18, hosted Kansas on December 21st. The Wildcats’ Jermaine Samuels hit a three pointer with 20.5 seconds left to go give Villanova a 56-55 victory. This one was tied at 23 at halftime, so it was about as close a game as you can get.
Samuels led the Wildcats with 15 points. Villanova improved to 9-2; the Wildcats’ losses this season were to then #16 Ohio State and then #24 Baylor. The Wildcats host Xavier next on December 30, while Kansas is at Stanford on December 29th.
