World Leaders at D-Day Gathering in France

The D-Day celebrations in France on June 6, 2014 appear to have gone quite well, although some reports say that the presence of Russian president Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko (to be sworn in as the new Ukrainian president on the 7th) “overshadowed” some moments, and some measures were taken to keep U.S. president Barack Obama and Putin apart. As it turned out, Putin to Poroshenko and he also spoke to Obama “informally” for 10 to 15 minutes, and there is much speculation about what they talked about.

We really wanted to know who else was there. Practically, every report that we read mentioned Obama, Putin and Poroshenko, Queen Elizabeth and David Cameron, Stephen Harper, Angela Merkel and, of course, Francois Hollande. Everybody else was relegated to the phrase “and other world leaders.” Here are some of those “other world leaders” who got a mention in a report or two:

BELGIUM: King Philippe
CZECH REPUBLIC: President Milos Zeman
LUXEMBOURG: Grand Duke Henri
NEW ZEALAND: Governor-General Jerry Mateparae
NETHERLANDS: Queen Margrethe
NORWAY: King Harald V, King Willem-Alexander
UK: Queen Elizabeth, Prime Minister David Cameron
