Soulful Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson tells MTV News that she’s not reinventing her sound for her fifth studio album “Stronger” (due out October 24th), but it’s all very soulful.

The first “American Idol” winner says Prince, Sheryl Crow, Tina Turner and Radiohead all influenced her new album’s big influences.

“It was a lot of soulful stuff,” Clarkson said. “You know what I’m saying? Like, Radiohead is alternative, but they’re very soulful. And Sheryl Crow, very soulful singer/songwriter. So it’s all very soulful, rhythmic pop rock.”

One thing hasn’t changed much, as MTV noticed. A lot of the songs are ‘somebody done somebody wrong’ songs. Even the one Kelly says is a bit of a dance song.
What Doesn’t Kill You’ has that kind of title, though the “Since You’ve Been Gone” survivor vibe is evident.

The album’s lead single is “Mr. Know It All” called the “ultimate tell-off anthem.”

Kelly says “You Love Me” is one of her favorites so that one at least sounds like the relationsip is still ongoing.
