Californication: Smile Recap

Californication: Smile Yay! We’re back to one-word titles. “Smile is the 7th episode of Californication’s Season 7 (5-25-2014). Julia has walked out on “Santa Monica Cop” and returned to cleaning teeth. She thinks the whole Hollywood scene is just bad for Levon.

Yeah. That’s right. That happened
Hank drops by Karen’s to give her a little bit of satisfaction over Heather’s angry reaction to Levon and the hooker, and some money since he just got paid for his episode. The Yoga Man is there and Hank demands to know what’s going on. Julia rips up Hank’s check. He can’t buy her forgiveness. Hank disagrees — he’s not trying to, he hasn’t done anything wrong. When Yoga Man tries to get Hank to leave, Hank gives him the old knee to the groin. Yoga Man punches Hank in the face. Hank throws his drink on Yoga Man and leaves.

I wanted to marry a busty blonde hygienist
Rick Rath wants a bit of a rewrite but his biggest issue is that Julia has quit “Santa Monica Cop” and there’s no time to recast. Without the clerk at the cop precinct, (Really, Rick?), they will be there all night reworking the episode. So Hank goes off to the dental clinic to try to talk Julia into pursuing her dreams. But Julia says she should have known better, nobody gets anything for nothing and she needs to stay away from Hank, Hashtag Black and Rick Rath. Her boss, “Dr. Dan” takes Hank into his office to explain the real reason that Hank needs to stay out of Julia’s life — he has designs on her himself. Teamwork, he says, is the very basis of a good relationship. Hank’s grandma always said it was laughter, hot sex and the occasional Dutch oven.

The Dirty Life and Times of a Rock n’ Roll Butler
Out for a liquid lunch, Charlie Runkle finds Krull tending bar. After some catching up, Crawl says he’s going to work on his motorbikes and memoirs now. Charlie’s ears don’t perk up until Krull starts rattling off some BIG names he’s worked for in the world of music: Bowie, the Stones, Bad Company, Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Ringo, Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, the Pistols, Motley Crue, Clapton, Sabbath, Ozzy… it’s a storied life. Charlie whisks him off to have a look.

Marcy pays a visit to Stu to ask him for a loan. He presents her with the same “indecent proposal” he laid out for Charlie at last week’s Kickoff Party.

Levon has no intention of moving back to New York with Julia. He plans on moving in with Hank and Charlie. Hank whisks him off to the dental clinic where they get in an argument with Julia in the lobby. Out comes Dr. Dick — oops, Dr. Dan. The staff is even more astonished when Hank spills the beans on his buxom blonde dental hygienist plan. Dr. Dan whips out a ring and proposes to a stunned Julia on the spot. Levon gives Dr. Dan a groin in the knee and he swears at Levon. Realizing his mistake, he tries to play that off. Hank punches him so hard in the mouth that it breaks a tooth! Julia returns to “Santa Monica Cop.” Rick Rath is so happy, he agrees to give Levon an audition at some point in time.

Marcy thinks about Stu’s proposal on the way home. She is shocked that Stu made the offer to Charlie first. Discussing the ramifications — she might enjoy it — arouses Charlie and they have a quickie (all he can manage).

Predictably, Julia and the Bioterrorist of Love end up at her place and she makes Hank stay for more than tickling after Levon goes to bed.
