White Sox Lose Eighth Straight

Last season, the Chicago White Sox finished with a record of 41-121; those 121 losses were the most in a season in major league history. They started that season 0-4. This year, things got off to a better start; the White Sox beat the L.A. Angels 8-1 in their opener. They dropped their next two, but then beat the Minnesota Twins 9-0 in Game 4 of the season, and were 2-2 at that point. In 2024, Chicago didn’t win its second game until Game 11.

Before anyone gets too excited, the White Sox lost at Cleveland 6-1 on April 10th, dropping them to 2-10 on the season. It was Chicago’s eighth straight loss. On April 10th of last year, the White Sox also lost at Cleveland to drop their record to 2-10. We’re only 12 games in, but the early stats are not encouraging. The White Sox are hitting .199, just .001 ahead of MLB worst Pittsburgh; they have an OPS of .578 (MLB worst), and are tied for last in runs scored with 35. Pitching has been a little better; opponents are hitting just .217 against them, which is ninth in the majors, and they have an ERA of 3.96, which is 17th, but not that bad in just 12 games, where one or two bad performances can send the ERA into the stratosphere. But without generating more offense, it’s likely to be another long summer for White Sox fans.

Highlights of the April 10th game, most of which belong to the Cleveland Guardians.
