Video Village with Monty Hall
This is a video of the 500th episode of “Video Village” with Monty Hall before he became the host of “Let’s Make a Deal.” Monty was the Mayor, Kenny Williams was the Town Crier and Eileen Barton was hostess. At the 9.25 point in the video, they have a contestant who looks like Groucho Marx and Monte says the other’s contestant’s husband looks like Prince Philip. Eileen was a singer and at the 12.07 point, when “Groucho” lands on the Music Box square, she sings a mangled version of “South of the Border” and he has to identify the spots where she messed up the words.
“Video Village” ran from 1960 to 1962. It was a live board game and I just loved that show when I was a kid, even though the only time I got to see it was when there was no school or if I was sick.
They also had a spin-off for kids called Video Village Jr. that came on Saturday, although I don’t remember watching that at all.
I don’t remember ever seeing the original prime time show either but we did have one of those Milton Bradley “Video Village” board games. They still sell them on eBay in various conditions. Some listings are only selling the game pieces.
Wikipedia has a page with all the rules to the game.
