Veteran QBs Michael Vick and Rex Grossman Sign With NFL Teams
Two veteran NFL quarterbacks who were without teams have found employment in NFL. One player we assumed would sign with somebody, the other came as a surprise, at least to us.
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Michael Vick to a one year contract to back up Ben Roethlisberger after his backup, Bruce Gradkowski, went on injured reserve. Vick, 35, spent last season as the New York Jets backup quarterback. He started three games last season, including a 20-13 victory over the Steelers back in November. We’re guessing that performance helped get him his new job.
The Atlanta Falcons were not happy with the choices they had as a backup to Matt Ryan, so they went out and signed another 35 year old quarterback in Rex Grossman. This signing surprises us, as Grossman has not played in an NFL game since the 2011 season, when he played in 13 games with the Washington Redskins. He has not been on an NFL roster since 2013, but Atlanta apparently thinks he still has something left in the tank.

I have to wonder if his Alma Mater has anything, or a lot, to do with this move. With the teams to the East and West of Gainesville starting QBS from the State (but not University) of Florida, maybe this is a perceived way of retaining a foothold (or toehold) of an old fan base.
