Upsets in NCAA Basketball Continue as Tennessee Beats Kentucky

The most predictable aspect of the 2015-16 college basketball season is that it is unpredictable. Upsets have been frequent, and traditional powerhouses are not exempt from the trend.

The latest example is the February 2nd game between # 20 Kentucky (16-5) and Tennessee (10-11) in Knoxville. The Wildcats were leading 34-13 at one point in the first half, but blew that 21 point lead and lost 84-77. It was the second consecutive loss for the Wildcats who lost at then #4 Kansas in overtime on January 31st. All of Kentucky’s losses have been on the road or at a neutral site.

Tennessee may be a team of the future in the SEC. The Volunteers are coached by Rick Barnes, who is in his first year after leading Texas for 17 seasons and accumulating a 402-180 record with the Longhorns. It might be worth keeping an eye on them.
