Toronto Raptors Win Their First NBA Title
Pascal Siakam and Kyle Lowry each scored 26 points and Kawhi Leonard added 22 as the Toronto Raptors beat the Golden State Warriors 114-110 to win Game 6 of the NBA Finals, and the Championship itself. It’s Toronto’s first NBA title.
Fred Vanvleet again was a key contributor off the bench for Toronto scoring 22 points. Leonard, who averaged 28.5 point per game in the Finals, was named the Finals’ MVP. He’s done it twice now, winning the award as a member of the San Antonio Spurs championship team in 2014.
The series loss wasn’t the worst thing to happen to the deposed former champion Warriors. Kevin Durant, who missed most of the Finals with a leg injury, tore his Achilles tendon in Game 5 and will probably miss all of next season. And Klay Thompson, who led the Warriors with 30 points, suffered a torn ACL and will miss the next nine to 10 months. The NBA West will be more wide open next season.
Leonard can become a free agent later this month, so it’s up in the air if he’ll return to Toronto or not. But he was the missing piece of the puzzle for Toronto this year, and was huge part of the Raptors’ first NBA title.
