The Slap: Connie and Aisha Chapters
There was nothing that exciting about the Connie and Aisha chapters of “The Slap”, and in the meantime, we binge-watched the original Australian version of the series, and duly noted the differences. We can’t say slight differences because the American version has a big difference with Connie.
“Connie” aired on March 12th and we learned that she has definite daddy issues. Her mom left her father when she was a wee one and he has since died. As a result, Connie idealizes her father and her relationship with her stepfather leaves a lot to be desired. Connie learns that Richie has photos of Harry slapping little Hugo, but she tells him to delete them.
Later she attends an art show exhibiting Gary’s art. She knows Hector will be there and vice versa. Despite her best efforts to play grownup, Hector comes to his senses and terminates any further interaction between them (which so far has never gone further than some flirting and a kiss, but that’s all it takes for a kid like Connie to believe Hector wants her more than his wife). With her fantasy dashed on the hard rocks of life, Connie runs off to a school party, gets plastered and tries to put the moves on gay Richie. So far they have not come right out and said Richie is gay but the implication was there from the “Hector” episode when he was following Hector around and taking a lot more photos of him than anything else, which makes one wonder how he managed to get a photo of the actual slapping incident. At the same time that happened, Hector was canoodling with Connie and you’d think he would have been photographing that. Anouk was certainly more interested in watching that than Harry slapping Hugo.
The next day, Connie’s stepfather brings her some hangover relief and the letter he and Connie’s mom were arguing over. It’s from Malcolm, a gay friend of her father’s who wants to give her a lot of her father’s belongings and sheds more light on her father’s life and how much he loved Connie. Later, Connie pays a visit to Rosie and finds her crying because the court has ordered her little darling Hugo to undergo a psychological evaluation (and it’s a pretty sure bet the kid will come off as overly aggressive 5-year old). Connie decides to help her and reveals that Richie has photo evidence of the slap.
The “Aisha” episode aired on March 19th. It really was quite bizarre with Aisha almost getting it on with a former acquaintance at a medical convention in Boston. They talk about their wild days and she tells him about the quandary she is in — her family wants her to be a character witness for bad boy Harry but she does not want to betray crybaby Rosie. Even Rosie’s husband Gary is sick to death of her histrionics and the last straw is trying to drag Richie and the pictures into the mess she has made. Hector wrestles with his guilt over Connie and his father, Manolis, advises him to confess. He does and after an indignant reaction, Aisha also confesses to her flirtation. Sandi later pays Aisha a visit resolving the testimony for Harry issue. Sandi told Thanassis that Aisha knows about the time Harry clocked his wife and Thanassis decided she won’t be a good character witness.
Contrary to IMDB’s lineup of the American version, they have shown these episodes in a different line-up than the Australian one. So we’ve got two more to go: Rosie and Richie.
