Texas A&M Upsets #1 Alabama; #3 Iowa Beats #4 Penn State

Kicker Seth Small booted a 28 yard field goal on the last play of the game to give Texas A&M a 41-38 victory over #1 Alabama on October 9th. The Crimson Tide’s 19 game winning streak came to an end. A&M had a 24-10 lead at the end of the first half, but Alabama came back and took the lead at 38-31 on a Jameson Williams touchdown reception and two point conversion with five minutes left in the 4th quarter. But two minutes later, Ainias Smith capped off a six play 65 yard drive with a 25 yard TD reception to tie it up. Alabama then punted after a three and out, and A&M drove downfield 54 yards on 7 plays to set up the winning field goal.

Alabama (5-1) fell to #5 in the AP Poll, while Texas A&M (4-2) went from unranked to #21. Georgia, who beat #18 Auburn 34-10, moved up to a unanimous #1. Iowa (6-0) moved up to #2 after beating previous #4 Penn State (5-1) 23-20. Cincinnati (5-0) crushed Temple 52-3 and is now #3, it’s highest ranking ever. Oklahoma (6-0) moved up to #4 after beating then #21 Texas 55-48 in the Red River Rivalry. Oklahoma trailed 41-30 going into the 4th quarter, and Kennedy Brooks’ scored the winning touchdown on a 33 yard run with three seconds left. The Big Ten has five teams in the Top 10 for the first time ever. Joining Iowa and now #7 Penn State are #6 Ohio State (5-1), #8 Michigan (6-0) and #10 Michigan State (6-0). Oregon (4-1) is ninth.
