Saquon Barkley Breaks Eagles’ Rushing Record in 22-16 Victory Over Panthers

Saquon Barkley rushed for 120 yards and Jalen Hurts threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for another as the Philadelphia Eagles picked up a surprisingly difficult victory over the Carolina Panthers 22-16 on December 8th. Philadelphia improved to 11-2 on the year while Carolina fell to 3-10.

Barkley is in his first year with the Eagles, sighing with Philadelphia as a free agent after six years with their NFC East rival New York Giants. He had some fine seasons in New York, but this is his best one of his career, much to the chagrin of the Giants and their fans. New York is 2-11, tied for the worst record in the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders. The Giants have a total of 1615 rushing yards as a team through their first 13 games while Barkley has 1623 himself. That total is a new Philadelphia franchise record.

The Eagles are on a nine game winning streak and have the second best record in the NFC behind 12-1 Detroit. They have already clinched a playoff berth. The Giants, who lost to the Eagles earlier this season, will face them again in their final regular season game. A possible silver lining for New York is if Philly’s playoff position is already decided, they’ll probably rest Barkley and their other regulars for that game.
