Revitalized Golden State Warriors Off to 12-2 Start in 2021-2 NBA Season

The Golden State Warriors were just 15-50 in the 2019-20 NBA season two years ago, after reaching the NBA Finals five years in a row, winning it all in three of those Finals. Last year they improved to 39-33, but fell short of making the playoffs. This year, they are looking like those five year Finals teams of the recent past.

Golden State traveled to Brooklyn on November 16th to take on the Nets, led by former Warrior from the glory years Kevin Durant. Brooklyn is one of the leading contenders in the Eastern Conference, but the game was no problem for the Warriors, who cut down the Nets 117-99. Golden State was led by Stephen Curry with 37 points. Curry is once again putting up MVP caliber numbers; he’s averaging 28.7 points per game, just behind league leader Durant, who is at 28.9. Durant was held to just 19 points in this game. James Harden led the Nets with 24 points.

The Warriors improved to 12-2 on the season, and are on top of the Western Conference standings. Brooklyn (10-5) is third but just a game behind the East leading Washington Wizards. Golden State could be adding one more weapon to its arsenal soon. Klay Thompson, who hasn’t played since being injured in the 2019 playoffs, is getting closer to returning, possibly around Christmas. Thompson has averaged 19.5 points per game over his career, and was a key member of the team in the championship years.
