Red Hot Joey Votto Hits Homers in Six Straight Games
The Cincinnati Reds’ Joey Votto is red hot at the plate. In the Reds 7-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs July 29th, Votto hit a home run in his sixth straight game. He actually cooled off a little: he had hit a pair of homers in each of his previous two games.
Votto began the streak with home runs against the St. Louis Cardinals in games on July 24th and 25th. He followed that with six homers in a four game set against the Cubs.
The Cubs, who have fallen off the face of the earth after a good start to the season, responded by going into full rebuilding mode at the trade deadline, trading away the remaining stars from their 2016 World Series Champion club. The Reds trailed the Milwaukee Brewers in the N.L. Central by seven games going into the July 30th-August 1st weekend. They will play a three game series in New York against the N.L. East leading Mets.
