Rays Clinch American League East

Left Fielder Randy Arozarena hit a pair of home runs as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Mets 8-5 on September 23rd to clinch the American League East title, the club’s first East crown since 2010. The Rays improved to 37-20, which is the best record in the American League going into the final four days of the shortened regular season.

The Minnesota Twins (35-22) have the next best record in the A.L. followed by the Chicago White Sox (34-22) and Oakland Athletics (34-21). Oakland has already clinched the West. Besides the division winners, the Twins, White Sox, Indians, and Yankees have all clinched playoff berths in the American League. In the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers have won the N.L. West and secured the #1 seed in the playoffs. The Atlanta Braves have won the East, and the Chicago Cubs and Sand Diego Padres have clinched playoff berths.
