Ray Donovan Recap: Pudge
We are back to the fast-moving action that we all love on “Ray Donovan” and Ray had quite a busy day in “Pudge” (11-18-18), Season 6, Episode 4. He not only had to deal with the crimes of his father and brother, but those of his future son-in-law as well, while more troubles brewed in the background.
You try and set me up, I kill Jay White. ~ Mickey Donovan
We picked up right where we left off last week, with Mickey on the phone telling Ray that he heard Daryll had the kind of trouble on the set of Mr. Lucky, the kind that could shut down a major motion picture.. Ray couldn’t get a hold of “Double D” on the phone so he drove right over to the movie set and found Daryll beaten and tied up inside. Daryll told him that Mickey kidnapped Jay White. Mickey called back and told Ray he wanted 3 million dollars and 3 passports and ended the conversation with “The check’s in the mail,” a sarcastic reference to Jay White’s most famous line from his prior films.
Ray had to lay this bad news on Sam Winslow. Where else could he get that kind of loot in 2 hours? Besides, “Mr. Lucky” is Winslow’s new company’s first film. While Ray made those arrangements, Mickey took Jay White back to Sandy Patrick’s house. He and Bunchy tied the action star up to a chair and gagged him. Mickey got a gun out and tormented Jay, warning him that if he tried anything silly, Mickey would be forced to slit his throat “from nine to three.”
You take this money and you and Mick are the same to me. ~ Ray Donovan
Bunchy met up with Ray, who tried to convince him that he was taking a fork in the road from which there was no turning back. Ray said he talked to Teresa and she had not even called the cops so far. But if he takes Maria out of the country, she will. Even so, Bunchy felt he was trapped because of his assault on the prison guard, helping Mickey escape.
You know nothing about art ~ Mickey Donovan
When he returned with the money, he found Mickey berating Jay White over the actor cast as “Michael” that was made up to look like Mickey. He told Jay the story of Abraham in the Bible and how God changed his mind about making Abraham kill his son and ordered him to kill a sheep. He took Jay’s gag off and kept forcing him to say “Baa.” Bunchy stopped Mickey and told him to shut up about his “Four Leaf” script. He loaded Jay White up in the trunk of a car and dropped him and the car off to return him to Ray. When he got back, Mickey was drunk and it was time to get the papers to get Maria across the border. Bunchy would not let Mickey go. Mickey passed out while he was gone and Sandy took off with all that money!
We don’t think that Sandy is gonna get too far with the loot, especially if she put it back in the same bag it came in. Lena was able to pinpoint her address from the tracking device in the bag and Ray is surely not going to want to pay Sam Winslow 3 million out of his own pocket.
I’m gonna get you the money, dude ~ Smitty
After Bridget went off to her first day as an intern for Anita Novak, Smitty got an ominous call from a bad dude named Chalky. He ran off frantically on his bike to sell some drugs to raise some of the money he owes. It couldn’t even be a drop in the bucket because he owes $80,000! The bad guys broke his door down later, beat him up and trashed the place. Smitty went to Ray, his future father-in-law, for help. He told Ray how the situation got this bad. When he thought he was going to die, he took money from loan sharks and gave drugs away. He just wanted Ray to let Bridget stay with him until he got it straightened out but Ray decided to take over his debt and he went to Chalky’s place to inform him. Of course, he brought his bat and beat some heads in when they were not agreeable. Smitty helped Ray take them all out. Then Smitty wanted to know why Ray used a wooden bat and not an aluminium one. Ray warned Smitty that if he endangered Bridget in any way, he would break both his arms. Then he informed Smitty that Carlton Fisk used a wooden bat when he won Game 6.
Felony theft. Times three. That’s a Class Six. ~ Emerson Lake
So remember the guy that was tailing Mac McGrath back in Staten Island Part 2? We thought he was a reporter from the New York Times, but it turns out that he’s Emerson Lake with Internal Affairs. They showed that scene in the “previously on” intro. Lake showed up at a diner in this episode and told Mac that he’s in on the hook for the missing drugs from his last 3 drug busts. He told Mac that he has 2 choices, to either try to fight the charges in court, lose and go to jail or wear a badge with a wire and stay out of jail. It remains to be seen who he wants Mac to spy on.
Tonight’s a tough one, boss man ~ Big Easy
Terry Donovan spotted Big Easy in the Fite Club and told him he wanted to fight. Big Easy was reluctant to do so because he didn’t think Terry should start out against the tough dudes he had on hand that very night. Terry said he didn’t care so Big Easy set him up on the undercard against Polish Tony. Another boxer told Terry “better you than me.” He said that Tony the Pony used to be in the Polish Special Forces and killed men for a living. Terry was taking a shellacking at first but he turned the tables on Tony the Pony and won the match. A bartender who befriended him gave Terry two drinks at the same time on the house, otherwise known as Irish Handcuffs. Terry got a call from Bunchy who confessed that he never saw any of Terry’s fights because he was too nervous and lied about seeing them. He sounded suicidal and would not tell Terry where he was. He just said that Terry was the best big brother a kid could have and hung up.
The episode ended with Sandy driving down the road smoking weed, drinking booze and rocking out to Ice Cube’s “Drink the Kool-Aid.” Maybe Mickey didn’t know who he was effing with, but evidently, neither does Sandy.
