Queen Latifah Gets Voted into NJ Hall of Fame

.. and gets two measly lines in the promo —

Here is Governor Chris Christie announcing the NJ Hall of Fame inductees for this year, in alphabetical order, and somehow the Governor was given a little bit more info about everyone but Queen Latifah. All he had to say about the Queen was that she was born Dana Owens in Newark and is extraordinarily proud of her New Jersey roots.

We get that Christie probably doesn’t download Queen Latifah on iTunes but surely, someone could have given him a list of some of her accomplishments, which include rapping, her hip hop hits, her work in television and on the big screen.

Among her many awards and nominations, Queen Latifah won multiple awards for her work in Life Support (2007): she earned a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television; a Gracie Allen Award for Outstanding Female Lead – Drama Series or Special; and an Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special

In 2004, she won an Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for Bringing Down the House (2003); in 2003, she won a Black Reel award for Best Supporting Actress in Chicago (2002); and in 1997, she won the Black Film Award for Best Actress in Set It Off (1996) at the Acapulco Black Film Festival.

Of course, we wouldn’t expect Governor Christie to reel off all of that, but at least the 2008 awards could have been mentioned, and the many awards she shared with the ensemble cast of Chicago (2002).

Christie went all the way back to Moonlighting for Bruce Willis. Queen Latifah was just starting out back then. We still remember seeing her on MTV singing that line from “Fly Girls”:

“Easy lover is something that I ain’t, besides I don’t know you from a can of paint.”
