Phillies Earn Split with Red Sox behind Wilson Ramos’ Bat
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired Tampa Bay Rays catcher Wilson Ramos in a trade deadline deal in July, but the veteran backstop just came off the disabled list in mid August. Ramos made his debut with his new team on August 15th, in the second of a two game series in Philadelphia against the Boston Red Sox, a matchup of a possible National League East Champion or Wild Card vs. the probable American League East Champion.
This was Ramos’ first game since July 14th, but he showed no signs of rust, belting two doubles and a triple and driving in three runs in the Phillies’ 7-4 win over the Red Sox.
Boston and Philadelphia split their four interleague games. The Phillies are in a tight race with the Atlanta Braves for first place in the N.L. East, with Philadelphia two games back at the start of play on August 16th. Pre season favorite Washington is nine games back and showing no signs of threatening the leaders. The Phillies and Braves will play each other seven times in September, four times in Atlanta (September 20th-24th) and three in Philadelphia (September 28th-30th) to close out the regular season.
