No Tattoos for Cam Newton says Panthers’ Owner

Before selecting quarterback Cam Newton first in the overall draft back in April, Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson invited the Heisman Trophy winner to his home for a visit. Richardson asked Newton if he had any tattoos or piercings. Newton replied that he had none. Richardson was pleased, and said “let’s keep it that way”.

Richardson will tolerate existing tattoos on players his team signs (he has little choice given how widespread they are), but he doesn’t like them or piercings.  Newton may have no interest in such things anyway since he has none, but we’re sure he’ll want to stay on Richardson’s good side and not press the issue.  It’s interesting that being tattoo free these days makes one stand out from the crowd.  Even though he has no tattoos, Newton will still have to compete with Jimmy Clausen for the starting quarterback job.  We have no information on if Clausen has any piercings or tattoos.
