Minnesota Scores Last Second Goal to Advance to NCAA Hockey Championship Game

The University of Minnesota hockey team pulled out a victory over North Dakota in a semi final game of the NCAA Hockey Tournament that was about as close as it gets.  With time running out and the score tied at 1-1, Minnesota was shorthanded and trying to kill the penalty and take it into overtime.  But defenseman Justin Holl got off a last second shot—actually a last 0.6 second shot—that just made it into the North Dakota goal.

That’s the type of win that gets you pumped up if you are Minnesota.  It feels like a kick in the teeth if you are North Dakota.  The Frozen Four, as the NCAA calls its hockey final four, concludes on April 12th.  Minnesota will play Union College of Schenectady, New York for college hockey’s national championship in Philadelphia at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPN.  Union beat Boston College 5-4 in the other semi final.
