Miguel Cabrera Hits 500th Home Run of His Career
Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers hit his 500th career home run in Toronto on August 22nd, becoming the 28th player in major league history to reach that milestone. The sixth inning home run off of Steven Metz tied the score at 1-1 in what was eventually an 11 inning 5-3 Tigers victory over the Blue Jays. It was the 13th home run this season for Cabrera.
The two time American League MVP and 2012 Triple Crown winner is also chasing 3000 career hits. The homer was the 2955th hit of his career. Cabrera has played in 99 games this season, and has 89 hits. With just 36 games left for the Tigers, the 38 year old Cabrera will almost certainly have to return for at least one more year. He’s signed through 2025, with the last two years being club option years, but we’re guessing he’ll be back for just one more. The next stop after that will be the Hall of Fame.
