Mets Beat Phillies 14-4 as Yoenis Cespedes Hits Three Homers
New York Mets left fielder Yoenis Cespedes got off to a slow start this season, hitting just .154 through the club’s first seven games with one RBI from a solo home run. Cespedes broke out of this early season malaise in a big way in the Mets’ April 11th game against Philadelphia when he belted three home runs and a double and drove in five runs as New York routed the Phillies 14-4. First baseman Lucas Duda had nearly as good a game as Cespedes, with four hits and a pair of solo home runs.
And speaking of productive left fielders, the Marlins’ Marcell Ozuna drove in six runs on a pair of home runs as host Miami beat the Atlanta Braves 8-4. The performance vaulted Ozuna into the major league’s early RBI lead with 12.
Washington Nationals second baseman Danial Murphy joined the parade of big games, going four for five with a home run, two doubles, and five RBIs in Washington’s 8-3 win over the slumping St, Louis Cardinals. Murphy raised his batting average to a cool .472 on the young season, tops in the majors.
