It’s Chicago vs. Tampa Bay for the Stanley Cup
Two outstanding NHL conference finals series came to an end over the weekend, with the Tampa Bay Lightning beating the New York Rangers 2-0 on the road in Madison Square Garden and the Chicago Blackhawks beating the Anaheim Ducks in Anaheim 5-3. Both series went seven games.
Tampa Bay goalie Ben Bishop redeemed himself after a poor performance in Game 6 to send the Lightning to their second Finals. Tampa Bay beat the Calgary Flames to win the 2004 Stanley Cup. Speaking of Tampa Bay Lightning, several years ago on a flight into Tampa, we experienced a lot of Tampa Bay Lightning as we circled the airport during one of those Florida summer afternoon thunderstorms. But we digress.

In Anaheim, Jonathan Toews of the Blackhawks scored two goals early on as Chicago took command from the start against the Ducks. The Blackhawks built up a 4-0 lead before Anaheim began mounting a comeback. But the lead was just too much and the Ducks, who had a 3-2 lead in the series at one point, will go home and ponder what might have been. Chicago’s most recent appearances in the Finals were in 2010 and 2013, with the Blackhawks winning both times.

During the regular season, Tampa Bay lost 3-2 at Chicago in a shootout on November 11th, and beat the Blackhawks in 4-0 in Florida on February 27th. Tampa Bay hosts Game 1 of the Finals on June 3rd.

Game 1 is in the books. Fantastic goal by the Lightning to open, but only rarely can you keep Chicago’s offense down.Teuvo took front stage and in two minutes, the lead had changed for good. Although both goalies played well, I think each teams defense should get a lot of credit as there were only 44 shots on goal in the entire game.
Blackhawks in 5.
This is the best coverage the year!!!
Should be an exciting Finals.
