It Will Be LSU vs. Clemson for the College Football Championship

Quarterback Joe Burrow led his #1 ranked LSU Tigers to victory over #4 Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl to advance to the College Football Championship, and in the process showed why he is this year’s Heisman Trophy winner. Burrow completed 29 of 39 passes for 493 yards and seven touchdowns as LSU destroyed Oklahoma 63-28. Oh, and Burrow scored an eighth touchdown himself, taking it into the end zone on a three yard run.

Basically, it was over at halftime as LSU went into the locker room with a 49-14 lead. Oklahoma now has four losses in its four appearances in the six year old College Football Playoff. This was LSU’s first appearance. The Tigers were in the old BCS Championship game following the 2011 season, losing to Alabama. LSU won the BCS Championship and was National Champions in 2003 and 2007.

LSU will face the winner of the other semifinal, a team quite familiar with the College Football Playoff. Defending champion Clemson has been in five straight of these playoffs, and will be in its third championship game after beating Ohio State 29-23 in the Fiesta Bowl. It looked like the Buckeyes were going to win this one, but Clemson went on a four play 94 yard drive capped off by a Trevor Lawrence 34 yard touchdown pass to Travis Etienne with 1:49 to go in the game.

So it will be an all Tigers championship game with the LSU Tigers facing the Clemson Tigers in the New Orleans’ Superdome on January 13th.
