Giants Sweep Dodgers with Three Straight Shutouts
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been in first place in the National League West for most of the 2015 season, but the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants are knocking on the door now after a slow start. On May 21st, the Giants, who have won eight of their last 10, completed a three game sweep over the Dodgers in San Francisco with a 4-0 victory. The sweep was about as dominating as it can get, with San Francisco shutting out the Dodgers in all three games. Going into Memorial Day weekend, the Dodgers (24-16) had a 1 ½ game lead over the Giants (23-18).
Game 3 of the series featured a pitching matchup of Clayton Kershaw for L.A. against Madison Bumgarner of the Giants. Bumgarner, who has been known to hit a home run from time to time (he had two grand slams last season), hit a 415 foot solo homer to right field in the third inning to give the Giants a 1-0 lead.
Bumgarner improved his record to 5-2, while Kershaw fell to 2-3. Kershaw has gotten off to a slow start, and will almost certainly improve as the season goes along. The race between these two teams should be ab an exciting one to watch this summer.
