This week, we had 3 champs who won over $30K in one game: Jill Rowley – ($31,601 – Mon); Howard Ray ($30,200 – Tues); and Kay Thanaporn ($33,199 – Fri), and that was very cool! There was only one triple stumper this week. Last week, there were two.
Here are some triple stumpers from Friday’s Jeopardy! round:
Bestselling Authors by Partial Title: $800 – Moreau (186)
show
Same category: $1000 – Augie (1953)
show
On the “Left”: $600 – The Rams’ Tom Mack made the Hall of Fame at this position next to the center.
show
Oldies: $1000 – I’m confused– this vocal group told us, “Let’s Hang on to what we’ve got” & “Dawn, go away, I’m no good for you”
For the last one, no one rang in and Alex Trebek said the answer was “Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons”. It was a bit surprising that Christi didn’t ring in since she covers musicals as a sideline, and “Jersey Boys” is pretty well known. Whatever — for the record, the group was not known as “Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons” until the 1970s. Up to and including “Dawn (Go Away)” (1964), they were just “The Four Seasons.” After “Dawn”, Four Seasons’ recordings (including “Let’s Hang On”) had “featuring the ‘Sound’ of Frankie Valli” after the group name until 1970.
Here are The Four Seasons (notice the billing) singing “Dawn (Go Away)” in the 1965 film “Beach Ball.” The Supremes were in this film, too. They were not “Diana Ross & the Supremes” yet either.
Re: Wednesday’s FJ, there is a great video on YouTube, I found through Mental Floss, called American Empire which well explains the types of territories and much more.
For whatever reason, from the game’s and not the players’ views, that is a fantastic distribution of correct responses.
