WHO IS ALBERT EINSTEIN?

The famous photograph of Albert Einstein sticking his tongue out was taken on the campus of Princeton University on March 14, 1951 by UPI photographer Arthur Sasse. The occasion was Einstein’s 72nd birthday and Einstein was being hounded for a photo by a group of photographers surrounding his car. Sasse was the only photographer who managed to capture the moment when the esteemed professor stuck his tongue out.

The photograph showed a side of Einstein’s personality that obviously made him more human and likeable to the public. Einstein himself liked the photograph so much that he had the image put on greeting cards to send to his friends. Nowadays, you can get a facsimile of the photo on just about anything from mugs to shower curtains from print on demand websites. The original photo went for $72,300 at auction and Arthur Sasse got his own entry in Wikipedia.

Christopher came up with John XIII. Perhaps he meant the XXIII, however, Pius XII was pope in 1951. Christopher bet and lost it all.

Martha got it right. She bet it all and finished with $30,800, the exact same amount that Emmett won the game with yesterday.

Emmett went with Winston Churchill, who turned 77 in 1951. He lost his $10,000 bet, landing in second place with $12,000. That made Martha Bath the new Jeopardy! champ. Well played, Martha!

Good match with several lead changes. All 3 DDs were gettable, none more so than the last one that doubled Emmett’s score. “Pilgrimage” all but gave it away.

A little surprised no one took a crack at the Japanese emperor.

The FJ was tricky, but it dawned on me quickly that Einstein lived in Princeton and died in his seventies in 1955, so that would have been my guess. Not familiar with that photo, though.

Congrats Martha on being the big winner today! This was a good final today!

  3. Rick says:

That photo was quite unbecoming of such an esteemed physicist like Einstein. Anyways, I went with Winston Churchill.

  4. Sam in Seattle says:

Glad to see one of “our locals” make good. Probably a special treat for Ken as well.

During the chat, Martha mentioned that she appeared on Jeopardy 50 years ago when it was hosted by Art Fleming and she won $40 and a set of encyclopedias.
